Tulip Tree or Tulip Poplar
Liriodendron tulipifera

Easily grown from seeds offered by GreenDealer Exotic Seeds

This deciduous tree belongs to the Magnoliaceae or Magnolia Family. The bluish green leaves are shaped like the silhouette of a tulip. The foliage turns bright yellow in the fall.

It is a very stately tree growing to 200 ft. tall in the wild, and over 100 ft. when cultivated in a congenial environment. It grows in a straight vertical shape and is prized for the value of its timber. It grows best in moist rich soil and is propagated from seed. It is native to the eastern and Midwestern United States. It is the state tree of Indiana and probably a few other states as well. The specimen shown above was photographed in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.

Hardy in climate zones 5 - 9.
