As show above, the Torch Ginger is a beautiful houseplant or landscape plant in warm regions. It forms neat clumps of rubust canes that rise up with strikingly beautiful inflorescences of large heads in brilliant red-maroon, marginated white, and nestled in crimson cones with yellow tips. Winter hardy only in zones 10 -11 but can be grown in greenhouses or can be brought into the house during winter months if offered sufficient light and heat. This plant needs to be fed, especially during growing season. Not especially picky as to soil.
A perennial herb of the Zingiberaceae or Ginger Family, with clustering, slender reed-like green stems growing upward in spiral order, with fresh green slender-pointed leaves, silky beneath. Unique flowers in dense spikes with red flower bracts in a dense mass of white and yellow tinged with pink. A fast grower, its numerous spiraling stems and beautiful flowers make this a handsome houseplant or greenhouse specimen if raised in a large container. A refreshing drink is made from the edible stalk. This plant has a unique appearance. Winter hardy only in zones 10-11. Not especially picky as to soil but must be fed regularly, especially during growing season.
