Phoenix is a genus of palms known as date palms which produce the edible dates. Pygmy Date Palm, also called Baby Date Palm, Phoenix roebelenii, is a gracefull, slow growing, dwarf specie raised outdoors in zones 9 - 11. They are easily grown indoors in colder climate zones as containers plants. Pygmy Date Palm requires less light than most species but will need adequate overhead light when grown indoors. Soil should be rich, moist and loamy, and plant should be fed monthly with a commercial tropical plant food, or a plant food specifically formulated for palms.
