Pomegranate (Punica granatum)
Star Fruit (Carambola)
and Tangerine

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a subtropical bush, grown for its brilliant orange-red flowers. The fruit of pomigranate, about the size of a small apple, is used commercially for juice. There is a smaller dwarf variety called "Dwarf Pomegranate" (Punica granatum nana) and is suited for growing in greenhouses and small gardens. There are varieties of pomegranate that have various colored flowers including, white, red, variegated, double, and striped. Pomegranates are easily propagated from seed and from hardwood cuttings.

Pomegranates are popular along the Gulf Coast of the United States and other warm climate areas. In an orchard setting the bushes should be spaced about 15 feet apart. As a hedge, they should be spaced about 6 or 7 feet apart.

Star Fruit (Averrhoa carambola) is a beautiful evergreen tropical tree with delicate foliage that folds up at night. It produces the delicious tart fruit commonly seen in supermarkets. Easily grown from seed offered by GreenDealer Exotic Seeds and can be container grown inside if given bright light.

Tangerine is another fruit commonly seen in Supermarkets. It is easily grown from seed and can be container grown indoors when offered enough light.
