Peruvian Torch Cactus, San Pedro Macho Cactus, (Tricherocereus peruvianus) shown above was photographed at
Huntington Botanical Garden, east of Los Angeles, in June, 2002.

Grows best in full sun in sandy well-drained soil. This species from Peru tends to burn in afternoon sun. Provide protection to the west to offer shade for best growth of this cactus. Some of the specimen shown here are more than 4 ft. tall. This species can grow to more than 5 ft.

Winter hardy in zones 10 - 11. Grow as houseplant where winters are cold.
