One of the easier to grow palms, this species can be grown as far north as zone 8 in protected areas outdoors. It withstands overnight freezes as low as 15 degrees F. Chinese Windmill Palm, Trachycarpus fortunei, is easily grown indoors in colder climate zones as containers plants. Soil should be rich, moist and loamy, and plant should be fed monthly with a commercial tropical plant food, or a plant food specifically formulated for palms.
