Canary Island Date Palm is a very strong palm, withstansing strong tropical storms, with large, luxuriant, arching leaves on yellow stalks. It is frequently used as a street tree in zones 9 to 11. It can also be used as a patio palm as shown above, but will eventually grow to more than 50 ft. Soil should be rich, moist and loamy, and plant should be fed monthly with a commercial tropical plant food rich in ammonia, phosphate, and potash, or a plant food specifically formulated for palms.
