Acer ginnala Native to the cold northern regions of China and Japan, this tree thrives where the Japanese Maple cannot. Amur Maple can be grown close to foundations and is a beautiful addition to urban landscapes as shown in the first photograph below in the business district of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. The specimen shown is around 12 to 15 years old at the time of this photograph and will probably not grow more than 25 ft. tall. The last photograph shows a mature specimen growing in an open area where it has space to spread out. Amur Maple usually grows as multiple trunk specimens. The leaves turn yellow-orange to red in autumn. One of the best choices for northern climates, the Amur Maple is easily propagated from seed and will grow fast, maturing to a small compact size. |
